Ouija, The Movie (well, I was lead to believe it was a movie...)

Bill Posey and I have been given a ministry by the Lord Jesus Christ to execute. Inherent within the ministry is somewhat of a "things to do list."  Within the scope of this list are screening theatrical movie releases that are thematically paranormal. We don't get a chance to screen every paranormal movie. That would be impossible. But there are some that demand our viewing.

One such film was Ouija, released in theatres nationwide in October of 2014.

There are a number of observations I want to share, the first being that what I have maintained about Hollywood for years now continues to grow worse. Too many films are produced. The quality of filmmaking is so poor that Hollywood should be ashamed at the embarrassing content that flows from its western coast. The film Ouija is one of those. During the viewing I seriously considered that what I was watching was a horror film parody. Every aspect of the film was so poor it was excruciating to suffer to the end. Cliché horror gimmicks saturated this mutt of a movie.

I don't know the who, what, when and where of it, but Hollywood is presently a decaying junkyard.

The woman who sold me the tickets should have been wearing a mask because what basically occurred was theft by deception. But let me move on to what is significant about this film in the spiritual sense.

The movie is for the most part based on what happens to a group of teenagers who use a Ouija Board, or spirit board, to contact the spirit of another teenager who apparently committed suicide after using the Ouija Board. The film quickly degenerates into the absurd, silly and predictable paths that most films of this genre do, but some of the effects of using a Ouija board depicted are all too real.

First and foremost, the Ouija Board "works." Spirits can be and are, contacted by those who use the spirit board. However the film is completely inaccurate in depicting what spirits are conjured. The writers would have you believe the teens come in contact with the spirits of a dead mother and daughter.

The only spirits one will contact by using a Ouija Board are evil spirits; demons.

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment..
     (Hebrews 9:27)

The Scriptures simply do not allow that disembodied spirits of the dead can return to earth and interact with the living.

In one scene we see a girl lifted up off of the floor and forced down onto a sink, killing her. Yes, demons are able to physically manipulate the human body to destroy it.

A man in the crowd answered, "Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not."
     (Mark 9:17,18)

By the way, in the above Scripture you can see the evidence that what the psychiatric profession has diagnosed as catatonia is in reality, demonic possession.

What is also accurately depicted in this film is suicide resulting from possession. If you have ever wondered what could possibly bring a human being to the point where they will  hang, shoot, overdose or slit their wrists, ending their lives, look no further than a demonic explanation.

Demons love to destroy human flesh.

They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet Him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
     (Mark 5:1-5)

Also note in the above Scripture that demons possessing a human being will endow them with superhuman strength.

There is no doubt in my mind that this film will inspire countless thousands of people to use the Ouija Board to "see if it really works." As a result of this film, ironically and tragically, spirit boards will be nestled in among the gifts beneath Christmas trees all over the world this December.

And those who use the board will discover that it really does "work." I can only hope that those who do fall victim to the evil spirits they will encounter will be helped by those who are indwelt by Gods Holy Spirit.

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devils work.
     (1 John 3:7,8)
